Adult Fitness

We will be working in
the fitness room on both the aerobic machines and the weight machines in a
safe environment. Participants will be working at their own pace and level.
Fitness schedules can be made out but are not mandatory. People of all levels
of fitness are welcome. A maximum of 12 persons can be catered for.

Aquacise

A fun
exercise session in the pool to build fitness and flexibility without
straining joints. Aquacise classes are designed to enable you to tone muscles, lose
weight and improve fitness. Because you are in the water, there is no
stress on your joints and your workout can be as difficult or as relaxed as
you want, as you work at your own speed.
Each class has an aerobic section which increases your heart rate, helping to improve cardio vascular fitness as well as weight loss. As well as the aerobic element, each class also includes a muscle strength and endurance workout which helps to tone your muscles and improve flexibility. Working to music helps create the sociable environment of an Aquacise class, so you can be sure to meet new people and enjoy a varied workout. You do not have to be able to swim to take art in the class as all of the exercises can be tailored to suit those who prefer to stay in shallow water. |

Art (Beginners)

The aim of these sessions is to provide a set of skills in drawing and
painting that can be practiced and used as a basis for completing drawings in
pencil and charcoal covering a range of subjects from portrait to
figure. The sessions also cover pastel techniques, painting, still life
and landscape. These skills can then be practised and built on to a
more advanced level.
Please bring along any art materials
you may have, some suggestions are: Range of pencils (4B, 2B, B, 2H, 4H
etc.) charcoal, sketchbook with cartridge paper (as heavy as possible),
Watercolour paper pad (pad of 300 gsm, any size) Pastel pad with coloured
leaves, painting board e.g. Daler board for oil or acrylic, paints-water
based oils. (we have a supply of brushes that may be used)

The aim
of these sessions is to practise and improve on skills in drawing and

Creative Textiles

Create a
beautiful silk painted wall hanging or cushion, or a small evening bag
can be made with the same technique. This project will involve working with
silk dyes and stamps to create a backdrop for the wall hanging/ cushion.
Textured seaweed shapes will be formed by heating and manipulating fabrics
which will have been painted with disperse dyes. A selection of fabrics will
be created and layered on to Bondaweb. The final piece will be assembled with
metallic embroidery threads and finished with hand embroidery threads and
beads.

digital photography class for beginners will take you step by step through
everything you need to get started using your digital camera. Starting with
the basics common to all digital cameras, the course will cover composition,
lighting, focus and exposure, with an emphasis on practical work. Once we
have some photographs to work from, the course will then proceed to
demonstrate through practical exercises the essential of computer photo
editing using Paint Shop Pro and finally how to print your photos. The course
will last for 8 weeks, and although ideal for beginners, could be useful for
intermediate digital camera users also.

During this intermediate course you will be building upon the techniques and skills that you have already gained. You will be experimenting with textures, colour pallets, kiln carving, glassline pens and papers. You will make a range of glassware (that are yours to take home and keep) whilst learning and practising a host of different techniques using a wider range of glass products and inclusions. Please note that in order to gain maximum benefit from the course there will be an opportunity to buy a ‘Special Glass Pack’ which includes a mix of all the products that we will be using throughout the 8 week period. This is priced at £50.00 and will be discussed and orders taken during week 1 lesson in order to gain maximum advantage from the tuition, techniques and products covered. Alternatively you can purchase the individual products on a weekly basis depending on what you decide to make. |

This
course was developed by Falkirk Council’s Community Education Service and
Denny Community Flat as a tool for engaging with adults who have been out of
work due to a variety of reasons (redundancy, family commitments, disability,
long term illness, carers’ responsibilities etc). The course was designed in
response to former learners’ responses on evaluation forms and anecdotal
evidence.
The course aims to draw together a range of skills, knowledge, experience and different approaches that will: - Be flexible enough to deal with a variety of learning styles & levels - Raise confidence and self esteem - Give learners the knowledge or confidence to reach informed decisions - Give learners an individual learning plan and strategy for the future - Be interesting to a wide range of learners Although this course is based on a 10 week programme of 2 hours per week, it is not ‘set in stone’ and should be adapted whenever necessary depending on the learning needs of the learners. This course is intended to give learners’ the confidence and self esteem needed to re-enter the world of work or training or further education, first step guidance, and an individual learning plan and strategy for the future. |

Mounting and Framing

This is
an opportunity for W.A.S.P. students to gain hands on experience of frame
making and mount cutting with our professional picture framing equipment. If
you have attended W.A.S.P. Art classes it could be an opportunity to frame up
your own work. It’s also an opportunity to bring out those items you had
stored away and to beautifully present them for display. Please bring up to 3
prints or paintings, between postcard size, and up to approximately A4
maximum. One of these will be mounted and framed, and the others mounted and
cellophane wrapped. Postcards or photos are ideal, as are original paintings
or drawings. Paintings can be on paper, card, or board, and small paintings
on canvas can also be framed - (no mount required). In addition to the 3
works to be framed or mounted, please bring a notebook and pencil. Otherwise
all materials will be provided apart from glass. This will need to be cut to
fit the frame by a glazier and secured with tape.

the label! In this introductory course students will work their way through
Microsoft Office 2010 word processing to produce various documents including
